About Us
Country Farm Meats is a part of the family-run farm of R J Hitchcock & Co, based at Crossways Farm in Great Barton, outside Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.
The farm is in the hands of the third and fourth generation of Hitchcocks Peter and Carol Hitchcock and their son Anthony.
While the farm includes arable land (which we use to grow our own wheat, which is then incorporated into the feed), the main focus is on the production of quality pigs, based on a breeding stock of 240 sows, managed by Anthony.
We rear and grow all of our pigs ourselves (this is less common than you might think) so we know our pigs right from the day they are born which ensures that each pig is of the highest quality.
Until the opening of our own shop, all of our pigs were sold to small butcher's shops throughout East Anglia. We continue to sell our pigs this way but an increasing number are now sold through our own shop, direct to the public.
Our pigs are reared indoors on a straw-based system to a very high standard and we mill and mix their feed ourselves, taking care to include only the best ingredients, including our own wheat.
The breeding and feeding of our pigs is all part of the process of producing what our customers say (and we agree!) is the best tasting pork for miles.
